The District at City Center
EPC and Copaken Brooks Break Ground on $60 Million Mixed-use Development
Lenexa City Center, a 69-acre mixed-use master planned project along 435 and 87th Street Parkway, started as a vision of the City of Lenexa in the late 1990s. Now, 20 years later, the area is quickly becoming a destination location. This past fall, EPC and Copaken Brooks broke ground on The District at City Center, a $60 million project containing 175 apartments, 45,000 square feet of retail and 30,000 square feet of office space. A total of 800,000 square feet of mixed-use space already exists at Lenexa City Center. Domain at City Center, EPC’s award-winning first phase apartment project is across the street. The area is also home to multiple hotels, restaurants and a 112,000-square-foot Lifetime Fitness Center. In addition, the crown jewel is the City of Lenexa’s $85 million Civic Center, next door to both Domain and The District. The Center includes a world-class indoor swimming pool, indoor track and fitness center, meeting space and municipal offices. A new library is scheduled for completion in spring of 2019. Recently, Kiewit Engineering announced the location of 400,000 square feet of office space and 1,700 employees. In just a few more short years, Lenexa City Center is destined to become the most walkable mixed-use environment in the Kansas City metro next to the Country Club Plaza.
